For this months DIY/ Upcycling Challenge, we have created outfits with the theme of lace, you can read more about the challenge here.

lace cut out blouse

Jamillah of Made to Travel has posted a very simple tutorial on how to make this lovely lace cut out blouse.

Pao of Project Minima has not only made a beautiful lace collar with several homemade crochet lace collars passed down from her Mom but she has artistically featured it in the painting Madame Charles Louise Trudaine by Jacques Louis David.

floral lace dress

For my lace DIY outfit on Style Eyes Ethical Fashion Blog I have combined two piece of clothing, a lace top and strapless floral dress, that I hardly wear to make something much more wearable.

Next up on Ethical Fashion Bloggers is a Polyvore contest, more details to follow soon!

Outfit Challenge Round Up – Layering

Layering is the perfect way to restyle a piece of clothing in a new way. It is also a great way of adapting your wardrobe for the next season and allowing you to adapt to the changeable weather. For this months outfit challenge at Ethical Fashion Bloggers, we challenged bloggers to create a layered outfit with at least one ethical/ sustainable piece of clothing. As always the bloggers have risen to the challenge and proved that you really can be stylish and sustainable by including more than one item in their outfits. Check out the links for further details of the outfits.

Layered outfit

Franca of Oranges and Apples opts for brightly coloured layers using a dress and a top from a charity shop.

At Thrifted Shift, a pretty summer dress has been transformed for the cooler weather with leggings and a cardigan (all thrifty of course).

Pao at Project Minima has created a beautiful pattern mixed outfit using clothes that she has upcycled or made from scratch.

Next up on Ethical Fashion Bloggers is out DIY/ upcycling challenge, I will be posting the details shortly.

With warmest wishes

Ethical and Sustainable Fashion Events

It is not long now until London Fashion Week and I know many bloggers will be receiving invites to many different shows and events that will be going on in the capital. I would just like to share with you some of the events that are focusing on sustainability / ethics in the fashion industry that I thought may be of interest.

THE ECOLUXURY FASHION EXHIBITION

ECO can definitely be LUXE and is being proved through ECOLUXE LONDON exhibitors’ work.Ecoluxe London, launched by Miriam González Durántez – in September 2010, is a not-for-profit organisation promoting sustainable luxury . It has managed to become the leading ethical fashion platform in the UK .

EcoLuxe London, the bi-annual ethical luxury fashion exhibition, opens on the 16th/17th of September 2012 (Sunday 12:30pm-8pm and Monday 9am-8pm) at London’s Kingsway Hall Hotel, 66 Queen Anne Street Covent Garden.

Created by ethical designers for ethical designers, EcoLuxe London promotes high end, sustainable fashion designers and brands and is open to press and fashion buyers who are looking for high quality and exclusive brands with a conscience.

London Fashion Weeks First Vintage Show

Retrospective is an exciting new London Fashion Week show and party that explores the past to predict next season’s trends. Taking place at Bloomsbury Ballroom on Saturday 15 September 2012, Retrospective will feature catwalk shows exhibiting beautiful one-off pieces from the world’s finest design houses and collections.

Founded by Bourne & Hollingsworth, the creators of the hugely popular Blitz and Prohibition parties Retrospective will be the first event during London Fashion Week to show the cyclical nature of styles and trends, whilst offering the fashion industry the chance to indulge their love of vintage and period design.

Retrospective has teamed up with the best vintage experts in London to create a show that features fashions from the 1920s right through to the 1980s. From shops like

Peekaboo Vintage and costumiers Violet’s Box, the brands involved in Retrospective are all well respected within the fashion industry and well known in the public consciousness.

Retrospective will be open to the public, allowing ticket holders a glimpse into one of the most exciting events in the capital’s calendar, and offering high fashion for all. The evening begins with a reception of cocktails and canapés. Then guests will be seated to enjoy catwalk shows featuring designs from names such as Mary Quant, Givenchy, Ossie Clark, Chanel and Dior. Mixing gowns, accessories and casual wear from over 50 years of fashion, each look will be selected and styled to reflect the current and future trends being showcased during London Fashion Week.

Conscious Swap Shopping Event

This is no ordinary shwop-shopping event, ‘Conscious Swap Shopping’ is an initiative created by the behavioural change social enterprise Wakeup Campaign.

Launching for part of London’s Design Festival, the events will be an exploration of our consciousness through the way we consume, behave, shop and feel by introspectively debating on identity, habits, behavioural patterns and the psychoanalysis of our shopping rituals.

Not only will you have the opportunity to bring your clothes and swap them for new ones, there will be a Q&A session where influential guest speakers from the sustainable fashion, lifestyle & academic sphere will be discussing their work.

Further details and tickets http://wakeupcampaign.eventbrite.com/

There is of course also Estethica exhibition, you can find more details here www.londonfashionweek.co.uk
